CITIZENSHIP IN SINGAPORE

Eligibility:
 

The following are eligible to apply for Singapore Citizenship:
 

  • Person of 21 years of age and above with SPR status for at least 2-6 years prior to date of application

  • Spouse of Singapore Citizen with SPR status of at least two years, and a minimum marriage duration of 2 years

  • Child born outside Singapore where at least one parent is a Singapore citizen.
     

In addition to the above requirements, the following factors will play an important role in the outcome of your Singapore Citizenship application:
 

  • Track record of living in Singapore as an SPR

  • Social and financial ‘investments’ into Singapore

  • Your ability to be an asset, not a liability, to Singapore.
     

Overseas-born minor:
 

An overseas-born minor (child) may also be eligible for Singapore Citizenship by Descent under Article 122(1) of the Constitution of the Republic of Singapore, if his/her parents meet any of the following conditions:
 

  • Male Singapore citizen by Birth who has a lawful marriage at the time of minor’s birth

  • Male Singapore citizen by Registration who has a lawful marriage at time of minor’s birth and minor does not acquire citizenship of the country he was born by reason of his birth in that country

  • Female Singapore citizen by Birth and minor born on or after 15 May 2004

  • Female Singapore citizen by Registration and minor born on or after 15 May 2004. Minor shall not acquire citizenship of the country he was born by reason of his birth in that country

  • Male (who has a lawful marriage at time of minor’s birth) or Female Singapore citizen by Descent has to declare their residence period in Singapore.
     

*The application has to be submitted within one year of the child’s birth

 

OTHER SINGAPOREAN VISAS

LONG-TERM VISIT PASS (LTVP)

Foreigners seeking long-term stay for the purpose of family visits, exploring employment, or accompanying a child studying in Singapore may apply for a Long-Term Visit Pass (LTVP)


Eligibility:

  • Visitor whose spouse is a Singapore Citizen or SPR

  • Visitor (below 21 years of age) whose parent is a Singapore Citizen or SPR

  • Visitor whose child (above 21 years of age) is a Singapore Citizen of SPR

  • Visitors who are students of Institutes of Higher Learning seeking employment in Singapore

  • Female visitor whose child/grandchild is studying in Singapore on a Student pass

  • Visitor seeking permission to deliver a child in Singapore

 

STUDENT PASSES

A foreigner is required to apply for a Student Pass if he/she has been accepted by an educational institution to pursue full-time studies in Singapore unless he/she holds:

 

  • Dependent Pass holder studying in a Government or MOM approved school

  • Immigration Exemption Order

  • Short Term Visit Pass and is attending an approved short course that can be completed within the allocated time period and does not involve hands-on practical occupational training and/or industrial attachment which have interaction with walk-in customers or be conducted at premises that are also places of business.

SHORT-TERM VISIT PASS/ENTRY VISA (STVP)

Assessment Level I Countries/Regions:


Foreigners holding ordinary passports issued by the following countries (processing time of 1-3 working days) will require a visa to enter Singapore:

  • Georgia

  • India

  • Myanmar

  • Nigeria

  • People’s Republic of China (PRC)

  • Turkmenistan

  • Ukraine

  • Commonwealth of Independent States†:

    • Armenia

    • Azerbaijan

    • Belarus

    • Kazakhstan

    • Kyrgyzstan

    • Moldova

    • Russia

    • Tajikistan

    • Uzbekistan and;
       

  • Holders of:
     

    • Hong Kong Document of Identity

    • Macao Special Administrative Region (MSAR) Travel Permit
       

Exemptions for Level I:

  • Holders of Diplomatic, Official, and Service passports from India, Myanmar, and Nigeria are exempted from Visa requirements.

  • Holders of Diplomatic, Official, and Service passports from Georgia, People’s Republic of China, and the Commonwealth of Independent States are exempted from Visa requirements for a stay of up to 30 days

  • Holders of Diplomatic, Official, and Service passports from Ukraine are exempted from Visa requirements for up to 90 days
     

Assessment Level II Countries/Regions:
 

Foreigners holding ordinary passports issued by the following countries(processing time of 3-5 working days)will require a visa to enter Singapore:
 

  • Afghanistan

  • Algeria

  • Bangladesh*

  • Egypt

  • Iran

  • Iraq

  • Jordan*

  • Lebanon

  • Libya

  • Morocco

  • Pakistan

  • Saudi Arabia+

  • Somalia

  • Sudan

  • Syria

  • Tunisia*

  • Yemen and;
     

  • Holders of:

    • Palestinian Authority Passport

    • Temporary passport issued by the United Arab Emirates

    • Refugee travel documents issued by Middle-East countries
       

Exemptions for Level II:

  • Holders of Diplomatic, Official, and Service passports from Bangladesh, Jordan, and Tunisia are exempted from Visa requirements.

  • Holders of Diplomatic passports from Saudi Arabia are exempted from Visa requirements.
